Announcement: Alpha to Beta Transition for Exodus: Goodbye World

Dear Exodus Community,

We’re excited to share details about the transition from Alpha to Beta for Exodus: Goodbye World. This marks a significant milestone as we prepare to launch the main game and provide a fresh start with a fair and improved player experience. Here’s everything you need to know about what’s coming and how it will impact you:

Upcoming Features and Timeline

• On January 25th, we’re excited to introduce the new Crypto Mining Area to Exodus: Goodbye World. Players will be able to mine Metamoney, which will appear in the currency pouch at the top of their inventory. This implementation paves the way for the Beta release, which we plan to launch by the end of February or early March. Along with this transition, the coins currently used to purchase Merchant Shoppe NFT items will be discontinued, and the items in the shoppe will also be removed.​

Items Transitioning to the Main Game

The items shown in the images above will carry over into the main game during the Beta launch. These items are divided into two categories:

• Database Items: These are in-game items stored in our database, such as Skilling Shards, Enhanced Scavenger Hunt Tokens, and select Merchant Shoppe items.
• Blockchain Items: These items exist on the Polygon Blockchain, including seasonal items, unique Merchant Shoppe items, and other NFTs. Blockchain items can be traded, stored, and transferred securely.

Categories of Transitioning Items:

1. Merchant Shoppe Items: Ranging, Melee, Magic, and Defensive gear, along with purely cosmetic items.
2. Seasonal Items: Exclusive cosmetics from past events.
3. Skilling Shards & Enhanced Scavenger Hunt Tokens: These key resources enhance gameplay.

Why the Alpha to Beta Transition is Necessary

The Alpha phase served as a public testing ground, driven by grants and Decentraland DAO requirements to showcase live gameplay and stats. While this live approach exposed bugs and imbalances, it allowed us to gather valuable feedback and refine the game.

Now, with the Beta launch, we aim to:

• Reset player stats and regular game items for a fresh, balanced start.
• Enhance player experience with polished gameplay mechanics.
• Transition into what will serve as the Main Game Release.

Web 3 Integration: Balancing Blockchain and Database Systems

Our vision is to leverage blockchain technology to create free markets where players have control over their hard-earned items. However, due to current costs associated with Web 3 development and transactions, we’re implementing a hybrid system:

1. Database Storage: All in-game items are initially created in our database.
2. Optional Minting: Players can choose to mint items (e.g., 1,000 logs or a unique sword) to the blockchain, allowing secure trading, transferring, or storage in their Web 3 wallet.
3. Burning and Returning: Items minted to the blockchain can be burned and returned to the player’s in-game bank for regular use.

This system ensures flexibility while working toward a future where all items can exist entirely on-chain.

Managing Existing NFTs

Seasonal and Merchant Shoppe NFTs will be incorporated into a new smart contract to maintain specified limits. For instance, if there are 1,000 Purple Robin Hood Hats, the combined total of blockchain and database quantities will never exceed that number. Some Merchant Shoppe NFTs will have in-game stats, while all seasonal items remain purely cosmetic.

• Liberator Outfit and Flail

3. Magic Gear:

• Wizard Hats (Various colors)

• Shields (Exodus, Lion, Dragon, etc.)

5. Purely Cosmetic Items:

• Feather Hats (Various colors)
